Brunching

Y’all… I. LOVE. BRUNCH.

Seriously, it’s the best meal for multiple reasons:

#1. Brunching doesn’t happen any old day of the week, so it automatically feels special.

#2. Bottomless mimosas

#3. Being in your early 20s means that there’s an assumption that you did something crazy the night before and stayed out super late, so it’s totally socially acceptable to roll in with your hair in a top knot (or braids in this case), a cozy sweater and some over sized sunnies. What’s better than that?

Denim Skirt

DSC04467

The 70s called, they want their denim skirt back.

So I was showing my friend some of these pictures with me wearing the denim skirt and she said “I’m having a love-hate relationship with that skirt…”

I hear ya. I own the skirt and I’ve been having a love-hate relationship with it! There are moments when I’m wearing the skirt that I feel awesome. Like a sweet throw-back to a little denim outfit that I LOVED wearing as a kid all the time. But then there are other times when I feel just like that: a little kin in a jean skirt.

Spring Break Getaway

IMG_1436

Let’s talk about one thing that’s totally BS about being an adult.

Vacation time.

Sure I get it, in the working world there’s stuff that has to get done. Like all the time.

But I miss the blissful days when I got a full week for Thanksgiving, a month off for Christmas and another week for Spring Break. Those were the Glory days.

Not anymore. In the real world you get about two weeks. Total. For the whole year. Let’s just say sometimes I feel like some sort of addict that was made to quit cold turkey.

So this weekend I’m boycotting. I’m headed for a long weekend of Bliss in the sunshine for a little R&R. It might not be a full week, but I’m hoping for a little break from my day-to-day life, and the bi-polar weather that is a Colorado spring. (Seriously, the spring snow storms March-May have GOT to stop.)

5 Lipsticks for Spring

lipstick vignette
For someone whose wardrobe largely consists of black clothing, my go-to accessory has always been a bright lipstick.
As cliché as it sounds, I’m a firm believer in the power of lipstick. It can not only change your attitude, but also disguise a mess. With the right shade you can go from hangover hell to badass boss lady in 30 seconds flat. There’s something to say for the confidence and attitude a great lipstick can offerit’s the one beauty item that can pull me out of a bad mood. I really can’t think of a more perfect beauty staple, so I’m sharing my top 5 bright and bold lipsticks for Spring, and year round, because I don’t buy into that seasonal colors shit.

1. Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick in It Girl – This lipstick is my instant mood changer. It’s the color I always get the most compliments on. At this point it feels like a neutral. Good things happen when i’m wearing this on my lips, I can’t recommend it enough.

2. ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips in More Better– I’ll leave it to ColourPop to sell you on this one: “Girl you hot now, but you’ll be looking more better in this deep violet wine.” If you haven’t jumped on the matte-liquid lipstick trend, I don’t know what you’ve been doing. These apply wet and dry matte, and pretty much stay all day—it’s a game changer. ColourPop’s collection is an amazing option for the liquid lipstick virgin, as they come in tons of shades at a reasonable $6 a pop. Channel your inner Kylie with shades like Trap and Beeper.  Another personal favorite is Creeper. You really can’t go wrong with the colors, but I do advise a lipliner because these guys can get a little messy and you need a tough eye makeup remover to get them off.

3. Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Kiss and Blush in 13 Corail Incandescent
– This cream lipstick is amazing. Not only does it smell delicious, it looks so creamy and beautiful and only needs one little swipe to cover your whole lip. It’s a bit pricy, but I’ve had mine for over a year and wear it at least once a week. It’s also a beautiful product to display on your vanity. Every color is great, my personal favorite is this pinky red shade.

4.Givenchy Le Rouge in 303 Corail Decollete– A pink-toned coral encased in a leather tube, it doesn’t get much better than this.  You’re gonna look and feel fly as hell, I promise. Love the 303 shoutout.

5. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl – This is the badass siren red you need in your collection. It’s matte but moisturizing and goes on so easily. If you’re feeling daring, put it on in a moving car or subway without a mirror. It’ll do wonders for your reputation.

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to wear more hats.

Sometimes I think we take New Year’s resolutions too seriously. We think that all the sudden we’re going to wake up craving celery instead of chocolate and are magically going to drop 10 pounds. We’ll  start investing our finances in stock portfolios instead of splurging on shoes, and finally find the time to volunteer more.

Canadian Tuxedo: We’re talkin’ Denim on Denim

DSC_7686

I’m a total denim girl. I probably wear it five times a week, and couldn’t be happier about it. Sure its fun to mix it up every now and then but the majority of the time you can find me rocking some skinny jeans. Currently I’ve been living in these, but also love the way Paige denim fit, and they’re usually long enough for my 5’12” frame. (Took you a minute didn’t it?)

As much as I love fashion and beauty, my knowledge of both barely scratches the surface. Luckily I have friends like Julia who have a passion and knowledge far beyond my own.
