This past Memorial Day weekend was busy for me, but seriously one of my favorite weekends of the year. Having grown up in Boulder, Memorial Day is one of my favorite times of the year. It’s filled with Barbeques, Graduations, the Boulder Bolder 10k and the ever-entertaining Boulder Creek Fest (seriously takes the term “granola” and “boulder hippie” to a whole new level.) But I LOVE it.
I love that where I grew up is a little “off” and I feel just as comfortable around grungy rock climbers as I do around preppy sorority girls.
This is also one of my favorite weekends because I get to spend time with people on my “home team”. You know, those people that don’t always live in the same place as you, but are family. My sweet friend Maddie is definitely on my home team, and it’s been super great to spend time with her while she’s visiting from her busy life in D.C. for a month.
We’ve went on leafy-green hikes, drank tangy, green matcha tea followed by happy hour margaritas with salty chips and creamy quac. We talked honestly about how no one prepares you for how hard, lonely but exciting your early 20s are- with tipsy feelings and flaky plans. And I even convinced her to be in a few photos with me. WHAT A BABE?!
It’s sweet weekends like this where I remember how good and real life can be. Full of the not-so shiny moments, but drenched in goodness like sweet white wine on an easy summer evening.
