Call me crazy, but I’ve never been a huge fan of Thanksgiving. I’m a Christmas Girl all the way, so I feel like Thanksgiving is just a speed bump to slow down my inevitable spiral into an eggnog and sugar cookie fever.
But this year, instead of Grinch-ing it up around Thanksgiving, I figured if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, so I hosted the most magical Friendsgiving. My roommates and I asked a few of our closest girlfriends to all bring a different dish, and meet us around the table to celebrate another year full of transitions, endings and new beginnings.
We ate creamy baked brie drizzled in blueberry preserves with a flaky pastry crust while we drank an earthy Malbec titled Velvet Moon. We smothered our pot roast in salty gravy piled high with lumpy mashed potatoes and fluffy stuffing, and for dessert Emily made a tart apple pie with a sugary lattice crust (recipe here).
We had a few too many glasses of wine and shared stories that had us laughing all night long with full bellies and grateful hearts. I know it’s not quite Thanksgiving yet, but here is what I’m most thankful for: I’m thankful for my tiny house that has such a tangible feeling of warmth and light. I’m so thankful for a space to invite people in, feed them, house them and share life around the table. I’m thankful that people want to be apart of the the tiny house and the growing tribe of family that I’m making here in Denver.
For the tablescape I’m currently obsessing over everything dark and moody, so I wanted to use a lot of black mixed with gold metallics for that extra pop. I found these black hexagon plates while roaming the aisles of Goodwill and just about died with how perfect they are, and just a few rows later I found all six of these vintage brass candlesticks for less than $4 a piece.
To complete the look my sweet friend Keelia with Beet and Yarrow created this amazing, “un-done” centerpiece that was just the perfect amount of wild and refined.
I don’t think I’m a full Thanksgiving convert yet, but this friendsgiving was enough to make any Thanksgiving scrooge a little bit of a believer. Hope you have the best Friends/Thanksgiving with you and yours this week!
Lots and lots of love,
Kenna
