Don’t think I’m over exaggerating when I say that one of my dreams since starting my blog five years ago has been to work with a company like Black Box. I. LOVE. their wine. (Hellloooo affordably delicious, party sized Malbec…) and was psyched when they asked if I would be interested in trying their new “spirits“.
That’s right. We’re talking, WHISKEY, TEQUILA and my go-to: VODKA.
Feeling inspired by the clean packaging with pops of metallics, I put together a cosmic cocktail party – drinks inspired by the stars. Using this cocktail recipe book I found on Amazon (I’ve also seen it in specialty boutiques like the Paper Source), I found a Vodka cocktail for Gemini, a Whiskey cocktail for Virgo, and a Tequila cocktail for Pisces.
Key Lime Martini
More often than not when I’m fixing myself a drink, I tend to gravitate towards Vodka based cocktails with fruity notes. I LOVED this Key Lime Martini. It was bright, fresh, and had just the right amount of tang.
Blackberry Sage Tequila Smash
My second favorite cocktail concoction was the Blackberry Sage Tequila Smash. Having just gone to Mexico last month, I’m still on a bit of a tequila kick and this cocktail didn’t disappoint. The Sage, muddled with fresh blackberries and grapefruit was the perfect combo to cut the tequila.
Sazerac
Last but not least, the Whiskey Sazerac. I used to be a BIG whiskey drinker, but one night out at the Whisk(e)y bar in Fort Collins in college and I haven’t been the same since. The zesty lemon with the rich absinthe made this a particularly strong, spirit forward drink.
Candidly, I don’t love shots, so taking any of these Black Box spirits straight up wasn’t my favorite way to enjoy this new product, but I thought it was worth trying for the review. (I’m forever relieved that my photographer is one of my best friends because the blackmail she has on me is extensive, including the bloopers from the straight whiskey taste test.)
I think on their own, each boxed spirit doesn’t go down quite as smoothly as a top shelf bottle of liquor, but for mixed drink purposes, I think these are the perfect solution. The pricing is as generous as the amount, and an easy new staple for your next cocktail mixing needs.
