Modern Mission Style

One of the best parts of my job, is that I’m now considered an “expert” by my family and friends when it comes to home design. I’ve been able to help a handful of friends create homes and spaces that reflect who they are, and how they want to live their lives. Most recently, one of my old friends from middle school, (WHEN DID WE GET THIS OLD!?) just moved back to Denver after graduating from Oregon with her Law Degree (you go Glenn Coco), and she asked me for some help pulling together a “southwest” vibe for her apartment. While I won’t divulge ALL of the ideas we talked about, I wanted to pull together a few little vignettes with sources, if you too are feeling inspired by the “modern southwest/mission” style.

Living Room

The main focal point for the living room is this dreamy, blue velvet sofa from Article. I LOVE when people are daring enough to add color in a room through their upholstery, and the richness of the velvet texture just puts this over the top. Paired with a simple white rug, and rustic wooden coffee table, both found on Wayfair, the space feels tailored but comfortable enough to binge watch some Netflix while diving into some Sunday evening Chinese take-out.

Dining Room

The vibrant, red rug I picked out for the dining room is the perfect foundation to create a space that feels warm, inviting, and makes you want to linger a little longer around the table. Keeping things simple with the dining room table allows for these gorgeous wishbone chairs, found on Wayfair, to really stand out. Like most of the design world, I’m HERE. FOR. THE. BRASS. I love this understated bar cart in gold because it adds a little glamour in the dining room without being over-the-top.

Bedroom

For the bedroom, I like to keep things soothing with softer colors. Mimicking the oranges found in southwestern deserts, I loved this abstract canvas from Society 6 that looks like a setting sun. Paired with a simple wrought iron bed, I added some fun sea-foam, antique looking nightstands from One King’s Lane to add subtle color and character. Complete with a textured rug and layered pillows, this is the type of southwestern bedroom that is soft, warm and alluring.
